Piping Engineering
These days, the competition in the job market is so high that to survive, one must possess some ‘extra’ skills other than the regular graduation Degree! Yes, the competition out there is cut throat and the job market saturation is not helping the situation either! Previously, I wrote an article listing some Industry oriented courses for Electrical Engineering graduates and students. In this article, I’ll analyze Piping Engineering and Technology course, which Mechanical Engineering students may pursue after completing their Engineering Degree course.

What exactly is piping engineering all about
Pipes have always been an integral part, when it comes to Large, medium as well as small scale industries. Earlier, this whole piping saga used to be managed by Civil Engineers mostly. But with the advancement of technology, this field became more and more developed. Now, it has reached such a scale that specialization courses are also being offered in Piping Technology!
Duration of the course
After graduating, one may continue with this course. However, if one has the time, they can even continue with this course while in their final or almost final year of their degree programme!
Eligibility Criteria
Graduates in mechanical engineering may enrol in this course. They may pursue it either after earning their bachelor’s degree or while enrolled in their degree program’s final year. Graduates with a diploma in mechanical engineering may also enrol in this programme. Graduates of chemical engineering may also enrol in this course!
In the case of the “Piping Engineering” course, the aforementioned eligibility requirements apply. Even ITI-passed and 12th-passed students (depending on the Institute) may pursue the “Piping Technical” course!
Nature of the course
In most regions of the world, there are regular classroom and distance learning (online) programmes available for piping engineering and technology. If you wish to take this course from a reputable institution, I advise choosing distance learning from a reputable foreign institution.
Job oppertunities and salary details associated with this course
Nearly all large-scale companies require piping engineers. They are necessary for the planning, building, and commissioning of projects as well as for cost estimation, design, research, and development, and material purchasing, among other things.
The manufacturing and processing sectors for gas, oil, petroleum, and chemicals are those that demand professional piping engineers the most. Fluids can easily moved from one location to another via pipes. And fluids are primarily dealt with in the aforementioned industries! Starting salaries typically range from 20 to 40 lakh rupees per month. Depending on the employer’s profile and the employee’s previous educational background, this number may change.
Consider petroleum refineries, which have some of the most complicated and amazing pipeline networks. These networks handle jobs like refining crude oil, sorting petroleum products, and moving gas and petroleum throughout the plant. The refinery depends on talented and inventive piping engineers, technicians, and employees to pull off such feats!
The situation with Chemical Industries is comparable. The material of the piping varies depending on the type of chemical they are working with. A skilled piping engineer or technician is useful in this situation as well.
Therefore, if career opportunities are what you’re after, this degree will provide you plenty of options. Additionally, you may go work in nations like those in the Middle East and the Gulf where oil refineries are abundant! One may also begin providing consultation services once they have acquired the necessary expertise and job experience.
In general, graduates or holders of a diploma in mechanical or chemical engineering are the best candidates for piping engineering. Only those with the aforementioned degrees are often accepted into the piping courses offered by institutes. However, this policy varies from institute to institute!
